A 14-year-old boy died of injuries after a dry-cell battery exploded at his house in Gudem village of Chintalamanepalli mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Lokesh, a Class VIII student of the Zilla Parishad High School in Gudem.

The incident occurred while the boy was reportedly playing with a used battery at home while his parents were away at a nearby farm.

The battery suddenly exploded, leaving him critically injured. Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing his screams and alerted his parents.

The boy succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Kagaznagar.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the battery explosion.
