Two Gurugram police personnel were killed on the spot and another was critically injured after a water tanker collided with a police emergency response vehicle (ERV) near Kheda Khurmupur in the Farrukhnagar area late on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Head Constables Chhotelal and Anil. Their colleague, Constable Dharmendra, who was driving the ERV, sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to the police, Head Constables Chhotelal and Anil, deployed on ERV-254, were on patrol when a water tanker approaching from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle at around 11.50 pm on Monday.
The impact completely wrecked the ERV, leaving both head constables dead on the spot, while Constable Dharmendra suffered serious injuries.
After receiving information about the accident, a police team reached the spot and sent the bodies to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against the tanker drive.
A senior police officer said the water tanker was found parked at the scene and was attached to a tractor. The tanker reportedly lacked lights or reflectors, due to which the driver of the approaching ERV failed to spot it. Further investigation is under way.
