Three suspects allegedly involved in the robbery of a jeweller sustained bullet injuries during an encounter with a CIA-II team of the Yamunanagar district police on Monday night.

The injured were identified as Ravi of Pathera village in Karnal district's Indri sub-division, and Satbir and Pawan alias Punna, both residents of Kheri Taga village in Sonepat district. All three sustained bullet injuries to their feet and were admitted to Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, for treatment.

The fourth suspect, Praveen, also a resident of Kheri Taga village, was arrested on the spot.

According to the police, the robbery took place in the main market of Radaur town on the night of July 4. A jeweller was closing his shop and carrying a bag containing about Rs 4 lakh in cash when armed assailants attacked him and fled with the money.

In connection with the case, the police had earlier arrested Sandeep of Pathera village and Neeraj of Padha village in Karnal district. The two were sent to seven-day police remand after being produced before a court in Jagadhri on July 11.

During custodial interrogation, Sandeep allegedly disclosed the names of the other accused involved in the robbery, the police said.

Police spokesperson Chamkaur Singh said the CIA-II team laid a trap near a canal bridge on Monday night, where the accused allegedly opened fire on the police. He said the police retaliated, during which Ravi, Satbir and Pawan sustained bullet injuries to their feet.

According to the police, rewards had earlier been announced for the arrest of all the accused. The suspects are now being questioned to recover the firearms used in the crime, the motorcycle, the looted cash, and to identify other persons involved in the robbery.
