WWE SummerSlam is only weeks away, and fans have the opportunity to whet their appetite for the Biggest Party of the Summer by first tuning in to Saturday Night's Main Event (SNME) at Madison Square Garden on July 18th.

SNME is sure to have matches that will shape the two-night SummerSlam card over the next four weeks. Some matches have already been confirmed for SummerSlam; Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar's third and likely final contest will be inside Hell in a Cell to cap off their trilogy.

Seth Rollins has challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Title, which is now officially one of the main events, and Liv Morgan will face IYO SKY for her Women's World Championship, as SKY chose to go after Morgan's title at SummerSlam by cashing in the title shot she earned by defeating Morgan in the Queen of the Ring final recently.

But more matches across the roster may be announced tonight on SmackDown for both SNME (which is only 8 days away) and SummerSlam. In this article, we look at 4 matches that WWE could announce tonight on SmackDown for these two major upcoming events.

Gunther has lost out on a chance to win the WWE Undisputed Championship on two previous occasions, first against Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy and then in a triple threat match against Rhodes and Zayn at Night of Champions.

The Ring General has been bitter about his losses, blaming everyone but himself, and last attacked Cody Rhodes on RAW this past Monday, costing him a shot at the WWE Championship on the night against Sami Zayn. CM Punk later fought Zayn for the belt and won on the night to become the new WWE Champion, and Rhodes will surely have a receipt waiting for the Ring General, which may lead to a #1 contender's match at SNME for the WWE Title with the winner earning a shot at CM Punk's championship at SummerSlam.

#3. CM Punk vs. the winner of Cody Rhodes vs Gunther at SummerSlam

With the #1 contender's spot for the WWE Title possibly being announced for SNME, the subsequent match for the winner to go up against CM Punk is the inevitable next announcement.

Upon the announcement, WWE fans can begin to imagine what could happen at SNME, who could face CM Punk for the WWE Title, and how it would go.

CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes is the most likely draw for SummerSlam, as both stars have teased a match earlier on the night after WrestleMania 42, but if Gunther has a say in the matter, things could look different at SummerSlam this year.

#2. Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill at SummerSlam

Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair are currently locked in a heated feud on SmackDown. Flair was on her way to the ring for her Queen of the Ring semifinal match when Cargill and her cronies Michin and B-Fab confronted her backstage and proceeded to attack her, in turn injuring her badly enough that it would be a disadvantage in her immediate match against Morgan.

Flair lost her bout to Morgan, who repeatedly attacked her weakened knee to pick up the win. Flair later interfered to cost Jade Cargill the Women's United States Title match against Tiffany Stratton at Night of Champions. The two women are set to continue their feud heading into SummerSlam, and their bout could be announced tonight on SmackDown.

#1. Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Gargano

Fans will feel for Sami Zayn because his dream of winning the Undisputed WWE Championship was extremely short-lived. Zayn was dethroned in a mere 9 days by CM Punk, who returned on the latest RAW episode live in his hometown of Chicago and took the belt off Zayn by beating him clean in the main event.

Sami Zayn will now ideally be at the back of the line in terms of competing for the top title, but his recent run has gained him more fans who would want to see him in action. Zayn's character has been slowly descending into madness anyway, constantly showcasing an internal conflict between being a nice person and doing bad things, so his latest WWE Title loss to CM Punk could drive him off the deep end. The creative team could have him do something ridiculous like blaming Johnny Gargano, whose character is currently a depressed, immobile wreck backstage, for his loss, just like he thanked the same character for his championship victory, though he had nothing to do with it.

With an oddball match like Danhausen vs. JD McDonagh already set to happen at SNME, a match between Zayn and Gargano at SNME doesn't seem too far away from being a reality. Zayn could also end up feuding with and facing Chad Gable at SummerSlam, as recent reports have suggested that WWE's creative had plans for this to happen at the biggest event of the summer. For this to happen, Gable will have to lose a gauntlet match that has been announced to determine the #1 contender for Penta's Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam.

It would be interesting to see what matches are announced on SmackDown tonight, and fans around the world can tune in to find out.
