Team India face yet another do-or-die situation as the three-match ODI series against England is currently level at 1-1, with a game remaining. The series deciding third ODI is set to take place at Lord's, on Sunday, July 19.
The Shubman Gill-led side opened the three-match affair with a decisive win at Edgbaston, Birmingham, before slipping to a four-wicket defeat at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, and missing out on the chance to seal the series.
The Men in Blue are quite familiar with series deciders, and have been on the right side of the results in recent times atleast. However, they fell to a defeat the last time they were involved in a series decider, during the home ODI series against New Zealand at the start of the year. On that occasion, they lost by 41 runs at the Holkar Stadium in Indore to lose the series 1-2.
Whereas, the last time they won a series decider was during the home ODI series against South Africa in 2025, where they emerged victorious after a comprehensive win in the third ODI in Vizag.

The last time India toured England for an ODI series, they had secured a dominant win in the opening contest before losing at Lord's to send the three-match affair into a decider. The do-or-die clash hosted by Old Trafford in Manchester, ended up being a memorable affair.
Chasing a score of 260 for a series win in England, the Men in Blue lost their way to find themselves in trouble. Reeling at 72-4 in the 17th over, the team were staring at yet another collapse to concede the series from a 1-0 lead. It was fitting that one of the most iconic ODI bilateral series in modern times, had an equally, if not more iconic, series finale. The seven-match series between India and Australia was reduced to five matches, after two contests were washed out due to rain.
The topsy-turvy series saw Australia take the lead after a strong win in Pune, before India fought back with a historic run chase in Jaipur. The visitors regained the lead after another thrilling contest in Mohali, before India equalised the score to 2-2 after another iconic run chase in Nagpur.
India, having clawed their way back into the series, sent it to the decider, where Rohit Sharma's maiden double hundred propelled the score to a mammoth 383-6. At one point, it seemed the hosts successfully completed the comeback with a straightforward win in the decider as Australia were struggling at 211-8 in the run chase.
But James Faulkner's then-record hundred off just 57 deliveries injected life into the contest, and soon they were well past the 300-run mark, with enough overs in hand. Eventually, a double strike, culminating with Shikhar Dhawan's brilliant running catch, sealed the match and the series in India's favor.
At a time when the five-match ODI series were operating at its peak, the two arch-rivals faced each other in Pakistan for the first time in almost seven years. The highly-anticipated series began with a thrilling contest in Karachi where India won by five runs after scoring 349 in the first innings.
Pakistan then fought back with successive wins and claimed a near-unassailable 2-1 lead. The Sourav Ganguly-led side avoided a loss in the fourth ODI and remained alive in the series after a clinical run chase in Peshawar.
With the series level at 2-2, the decider was played in Lahore, where India made a strong statement by scoring 293-7 after being put into bat first. VVS Laxman recorded his last ODI hundred and single-handedly carried the innings, with the next highest score being 45.
In the second innings, new-ball pacers Lakshmipathy Balaji and Irfan Pathan wreaked havoc to reduce Pakistan to 25-3 inside the first seven overs. The hosts soon collapsed to 96-6. Although they fought back with a partnership between Shoaib Malik and Moin Khan, India eventually won by 40 runs to secure a historic ODI series win on Pakistan soil, that too after being 1-2 down.
