Palworld 1.0 is here, and drawing in more new players than ever, and there are plenty of great must-have pals for beginners. We based this on a few criteria, such as incredible early-game damage, the ability to be flexible in terms of base work, and things of that nature. There are several that are 100% worth going out of your way for, to make your in-game life much easier.
This isn’t a comprehensive list of every must-have beginner pals in Palworld 1.0, but they are all worth capturing and befriending. These are some of my favorite pals, whether it be for work, or combat.
Tombat is easily one of the best beginner pals in Palworld 1.0, though you should know it can only be found at night. It’s near the starting area though, so it won’t be something you have to explore too hard for.
It has Gathering 2 and Mining Level 3, making it a great base pal, and it also has the power to scan the nearby area for pals. That’s such a useful ability, and plus Tombat looks super cool, on top of that. I’d bring one back for the base to mine, and the other to help scout for pals to befriend.
The Death-Cheating Feline, Wispaw is one of my favorite pals, not just because it’s a dark-elemental cat, but it makes catching pals much easier. You’ll want to go out of your way to make this one of your early-game pal catches in Palworld 1.0, because it increases the capture rate when awarded a Back Bonus.
On top of that, it’s a very flexible base pal, coming with Handiwork 2, Lumbering 1, Medicine PRoduct 1 and Transporting 1. There are several dark-types that are great in Palworld, but Wispaw is easily one of my favorites.
Do you need more Stone in your base to craft with, but find Mining Picks to be a tedious way to go about it? Ride Rushoar, because while mounted, you increase the efficiency of destroying Stone by 500%. It’s an aggressive, strong Pal, and while it’s only really good at one thing (Mining), it’s great to use in combat, or to ride around and smash through rocks, thanks to that Hard Head trait.
Jolthog is another specialized Pal you should get early (and definitely can) in Palworld 1.0, because he is focused on generating Electricity. He does fantastic AOE electric damage (making fighting them awful annoying), and he also has the Jolt Bomb Partner Skill.
You can throw Jolthog as a grenade that deals lightning damage where he lands. That’s a great way to get the drop on a Water type, thanks to the elemental weakness type chart. While you may not take them into battle often, they certainly shine there. But in terms of base electricity, he’s probably the easiest early-game option.
While Incineram isn’t a pal that’s found in a lot of places (just one that we’re aware of), it’s incredibly powerful. Flameclaw Hunter allows it to deal Hellfire Claw attacks which hit mighty hard, and it also frankly, has an incredible design.
If that weren’t enough, it also comes with Kindling 3, Handiwork 2, Mining 3 and Transporting 2, making it a flexible base pal. No matter what task you assign to it in the early game, it will 100% excel at it.
Another great Palworld Dark type for 1.0 and beginners, is Daedream. This is another that only spawns at night, but if you’re trying to bully down a powerful pal without knocking it out, Daedream can certainly assist. Dream Chaser lets it show up and fire Dark Magic Bullets at a pal, even if you have another pal out instead, and they won’t reduce the targets health below 1.
It’s not amazing in your base, but it does have Handiwork 1, Gathering 1 and Transporting 1. It’s a pal I’d much rather have in my main lineup, instead of using it in my base, but it isn’t terrible there either.
A solid Ground-type for Palworld 1.0, Pupperai is a pal you can get incredibly early, and it has the skill Best Boy. Best Boy makes catching some pals much easier in the early game. It gives you +10% Melee Weapon Damage, so you can get those extra hits in to tame pals with greater ease.
It’s also mediocre in your base, but is still quite flexible with Lumbering 1, Gathering 1, and Transporting 1. It’s a brand-new Pal, so I recommend getting it, and using it in your base until you get more specialized options.
