An interesting installation, unique in South India, has recently been carried out at the Kaleeswarar Mills, Coimbatore, by the English Electric Co. Ltd.

This spinning mill, which is one of the largest in the district, working with electric drive, has recently installed a weaving shed, and on the advice of The English Electric Co, they equipped it entirely on this Company’s individual drive system. The usual manner of driving looms is to have long lines of shafting running down the shed, on which pulleys are mounted, driving the looms by belts. In the individual drive system, however, each loom is driven by its own motor. The Mills adopted the system, in the face of much criticism from parties whose interest lay in the supply of line shafting, mill gearing and are to be heartily congratulated on having the courage to be pioneers in South India, of the latest and most up to date system.
