Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday (July 15, 2026) appeared before a court in Bidhannagar to submit his voice sample. The court has sought the Trinamool leader’s voice sample in connection with an FIR for making inflammatory remarks during the campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections.
Last week, the Calcutta High Court, which had granted the Trinamool leader interim protection from arrest, said that the protection granted to him was based on his assurance of cooperating with the investigation. The Court asked why he had yet to furnish his voice sample in connection with the case.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya of the Calcutta High Court had directed Abhishek Banerjee to appear before the court and submit his voice sample by July 15.
A case was filed against Abhishek Banerjee for making an inflammatory remark in which he referred to the use of blaring DJ music in a manner that allegedly threatened the Bharatiya Janata Party. Counsel for Abhishek Banerjee had told the High Court that his client was not disputing the authenticity of the voice.
There was a large deployment of police outside the court, and Abhishek Banerjee was taken inside the court amidst strong police cover, amid apprehensions of eggs being hurled at the Trinamool leader.
After the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly polls, the Trinamool Congress general secretary had faced a barrage of cases on several issues, including forgery of the signatures of MLAs and allegations of misuse of the Sebashray scheme.
