The Karkala Town police have arrested a 60-year-old man who had failed to appear before a court in Karkala, Udupi district, for 36 years.

In a press note, the police said the Principal Civil Judge and JMFC Court, Karkala, had issued a non-bailable warrant against Peter Augustin Martin in connection with a case registered against him in 1989 under Sections 143, 147, 148, 447, 448, 323 and 326 of the Indian Penal Code.

A police team led by the Karkala Town Sub-Inspector traced Martin to Ramasamudra in Karkala Kasba village and arrested him on Monday.

Martin was produced before the court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody, the police said.
