Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged that the Centre was misleading people about E20 petrol, claiming it had reduced vehicle mileage and caused mechanical problems.

The former Delhi Chief Minister visited a petrol pump and a service station in the national capital, where he interacted with motorists who had come to refuel and others who had brought their vehicles for repairs to assess the impact of E20 petrol.

“The government is telling white lies. Due to E20, vehicles are indeed facing problems. The mileage of almost all vehicles has decreased, and there are complaints of malfunctions in many vehicles,” Mr. Kejriwal said.

Citing his interactions, the AAP chief said ordinary people were facing difficulties because of ethanol-blended fuel. “For the past few days, I have been observing that anyone in the country who opposes E20-blended petrol is being abused by Ministers in this government. They are being called anti-nationals, traitors, agents of the petrol lobby, unemployed social activists, and several other names. I want to tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi such arrogance is not appropriate,” he said.

“It is the government’s duty to hear their grievances and address them,” he added.

There was no immediate response from the Centre or the Bharatiya Janata Party to Mr. Kejriwal’s allegations.
