A WWE star has revealed hearing horror stories about CM Punk. During his first run with the Stamford-based company, The Voice of the Voiceless gained a fierce reputation towards the end of his tenure.
Following his exit from the promotion, his interviews only added to these notions. Years later, when he returned to pro wrestling with AEW, things appeared to have changed, but then the infamous Brawl Out happened in 2022.
Hence, when CM Punk returned to WWE in late 2023, there was some scepticism among some names. Speaking on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Finn Balor opened up on how it was like working with the veteran recently.
The two stars competed for the World Heavyweight Championship in Balor's hometown of Belfast on RAW before meeting in Punk's backyard in Chicago at Elimination Chamber.
Balor said that before CM Punk returned to the promotion, he had heard how his reputation preceded him and that he was difficult to work with.
However, Balor said it was quite the opposite when they finally interacted and even said that he feels their match in Belfast happened because Punk asked for it.
CM Punk had been absent from WWE TV following the RAW after WrestleMania 42. As rumors around his future swirled, he made a shocking return on RAW this week live from Chicago.
Sami Zayn was supposed to defend his WWE Championship against the No. 1 contender, Cody Rhodes, but the American Nightmare was brutally attacked by Gunther backstage earlier in the night.
SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis then showed up to reveal that he had found a replacement, which turned out to be Punk. A gruelling match saw the Second City Saint deliver a GTS to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.
