    Qualifying marks for AIBE 2026

The AIBE is a qualifying examination for law graduates seeking a Certificate of Practice.

Candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories must secure at least 45 percent marks to qualify. Those from the SC, ST and PwD categories are required to score a minimum of 40 percent.

If any question is withdrawn from the final evaluation, the qualifying marks may be reduced proportionately.

    Certificate of Practice

Candidates who qualify in the examination will receive their Certificate of Practice through their respective State Bar Councils.

Those who do not qualify can appear for the examination again, as there is no limit on the number of attempts.

Candidate participation and previous examination trends

The Bar Council of India has reported a significant increase in participation over recent examination cycles. AIBE 21 is estimated to have recorded nearly 2.65 lakh candidates, representing an increase of almost 75 percent in candidate footfall over two examination cycles.

AIBE 18 (2023) recorded around 1.44 lakh candidates and an overall pass percentage of 48.36 percent. AIBE 19 (2024) registered a pass percentage of 77.27 percent.

In AIBE 20 (2025), 2,51,968 candidates appeared for the examination, of whom 1,74,386 qualified, resulting in a pass percentage of 69.21 percent.

For AIBE 21, the total number of candidates is estimated at around 2.65 lakh. The number of qualified candidates and the overall pass percentage will be announced along with the results.

    Gender-wise participation

According to the latest consolidated figures released by the BCI, 1,65,613 male candidates appeared for the examination, with 1,13,063 qualifying.

Among female candidates, 86,336 appeared and 61,310 qualified.

The BCI also recorded the participation of 19 transgender candidates, of whom 13 qualified.

    Drop question policy

The AIBE evaluation process includes a provision for removing incorrect or defective questions from the final assessment.

During AIBE 20, five questions were dropped after review, reducing the total evaluation from 100 marks to 95 marks.

If the BCI identifies similar discrepancies during the AIBE 21 review process, the final evaluation and qualifying marks will be adjusted accordingly.
