With the Palworld 1.0 launch, we saw some very smart redesigns of a handful of Pals. Some of these just made them better in our opinion, though not everyone agrees. The community has painstakingly gone through the designs to find all the ones that have been updated, and was presented on Reddit by Silverr98. In general, the game’s visual design has markedly improved from the Early Access version.
While Pocketpair has not given an official reason about why these were changed, we can clearly see the changes in Palworld for ourselves for the redesigned Pals. Here’s what we know, and what they now look like in-game.
Quite a few Pals have had redesigns in the Palworld 1.0 launch, from the tiniest of changes, to complete overhauls. It’s likely that this was done to make the designs feel more original, because there were a lot of complaints about certain Pals being complete ripoffs of Pokemon designs. It could be to avoid Nintendo’s wrath, or because they simply wanted to update them.
Palworld’s Fengelope was incredibly similar to Coballion to the tiniest detail. While the 1.0 version of Fengelope retails its majestic, legendary deer aesthetic, the change to a more violet color, and cloudly-looking horns does help it stand out a bit from the Sword of Justice that made its name in Pokemon.
Robinquill, Palworld’s answer to Decidueye, according to some people, though I’m not really sure I see it. The coloring was certainly similar, but I think that’s more or less where the similarities ended, other than that they are both birds.
The new version has a sharper look, and a more olive green primary color to make it different from Pokemon’s flying type. Conversely, it shares a design with Robinquill Terra, which is more of a tan/earthy color, instead of the original design.
Verdash was Palworld’s grassy version of Cinderace, and in the 1.0 version, it has a marked improvement over the original with this new version. Pocketpair shrunk the body down, gave it bigger thighs, almost like it’s wearing baggy pants, or the pants that Vegeto/Gogeta wear in Dragon Ball.
It looks like a small grassy anime boy with green eyes, instead of the gold it had, and the ears are much larger, and stick out more. While I’m not crazy about all of the redesigns, I like this one probably the most.
Grintale received the tiniest redesign in the 1.0 update. A Pal that was often accused of being a copycat, so to speak, of Galarian Meowth, it now has more manic-looking eyes, a raise in the middle of its smile, and markings that stick out on either side of its eyes. It still has the same body type, but only had a couple of very minor changes.
