Julian Alvarez’s wonderstrike fired Argentina into the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal as it beat 10-man Switzerland 3-1 at the Kansas City on Saturday.

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring for the defending champion before Dan Ndoye equalised for Switzerland in the 67th minute.

However, disaster struck for Switzerland when Breel Embolo was sent off for a second yellow in the 72nd minute after a VAR intervention highlighted simulation from the striker.

While Argentina failed to break down a resolute Swiss rearguard in regulation time, it needed a fierce strike from Alvarez from outside the box to beat Gregor Kobel.

Lautaro Martinez added a third in the added time of extra time to seal Argentina’s victory.

Argentina will take on England, which beat Norway, in the semifinal on Wednesday.
