A 45-year-old anganwadi worker attempted to end her life allegedly after a higher official scolded her here on Friday (July 24, 2026).
According to the police, Vennila, a resident of Erumapatti, is working at an anganwadi centre at Sevvanthipatti. On Friday, she came to work as usual and posted a video in which she alleged that higher officials scolded her, pushing her to take the extreme step. She fainted in the centre and residents rushed to the spot and admitted her to Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, anganwadi workers gathered at the Namakkal Collectorate on Friday evening and protested. Revenue Divisional Officer Shanti held talks with the protesters and assured them to take action on the issue. Based on that, they withdrew their protest. The Erumapatti police registered a case and are investigating further.
