Annamayya district administration has expedited the ongoing ‘Jaladhara-Jalaharathi’ 100-day water conservation programme, focusing on tank restoration, feeder channel development and groundwater recharge to improve water availability and strengthen irrigation infrastructure across the district.

At a meeting with officials here on Wednesday, District Collector Nishant Kumar reviewed the progress achieved under the programme and highlighted the measures taken to enhance water conservation in drought-prone mandals of the district.

The Collector said that the initiative aims to rejuvenate water bodies, improve storage capacity, and facilitate better movement of water through feeder channels. “Interlinking of tanks and restoration of traditional water sources will improve groundwater levels and provide greater support to agricultural activities in the coming seasons,” Mr. Nishant Kumar said.

“We have clearly identified tank restoration and feeder channel improvement as priority areas under the campaign. Efforts are under way to ensure the convergence of resources available under various government departments so that works can be completed in a time-bound manner,” he said.

The officials informed the Collector that the programme generated encouraging results in several locations, with improved groundwater recharge and better water retention in restored tanks. Sustained implementation of such interventions would help strengthen water security and reduce the impact of recurring dry spells in vast stretches of Annamayya district, the officials observed.
