Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Tiruchi launched an advanced neuro navigation system and a stroke command centre aimed at providing precision neurosurgery and ancillary services on Thursday.
At a press gathering, a team of doctors, led by S. Fazal Ilahi, interventional neurologist, and consultant neurosurgeons S. Syed Ali, Mayilan Chinnappan and S. Senthil Kumar, explained the new facilities.
Dr. Fazal said that the neuro navigation system, an image-guided surgery technology, provides highly precise guidance during brain and spine surgeries. He said the system causes minimal damage to healthy brain tissues, leading to faster recovery, and improved patient outcomes.
A young patient from Thanjavur who had undergone a successful neurological procedure using the new system was introduced to the gathering.
The stroke command centre, equipped with CT perfusion technology, enables the accurate assessment of blood flow to the brain in patients with acute stroke. The centre will function in coordination with at least 15 nursing homes in the delta region to improve time-critical stroke management.
V. Jayaraman, unit head and associate vice-president, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Tiruchi, inaugurated the neuro navigation system and stroke command centre. An exclusive neuro intensive care unit was launched at the hospital on Thursday.
