Two armed youths allegedly robbed a jewellery shop in Guru Ravidas Nagar, Malout, on Tuesday afternoon and fled with gold ornaments worth around Rs 8 lakh after firing two shots. No one was injured in the incident. The entire robbery was carried out in around 15 minutes.

Shop owner Sanjay Soni said the two robbers entered the shop posing as customers at around 2 pm.

"They initially asked to see a gold ring and later requested to examine a pair of gold earrings. While the ornaments were being shown, one of the robbers pulled out a pistol and threatened me to remain silent," Soni said.

He added, "I raised an alarm, following which my father came from our house located behind the shop. The robbers picked up three boxes containing gold ornaments worth around Rs 8 lakh from the counter and fled. While escaping, they fired shots inside and outside the shop."

Soni further alleged that the police arrived nearly 45 minutes after the incident.

According to sources, the two robbers had reached the shop on foot, while an accomplice was waiting nearby on a motorcycle. After committing the robbery, all three fled on the motorcycle.

The incident was captured on the shop's CCTV cameras.

Muktsar SP (Investigation) Manmeet Singh Dhillon, Malout DSP Jaspal Singh and Malout City SHO Inspector Varun Yadav visited the spot and launched an investigation.

The SP said, "The robbers fired two shots. We have obtained CCTV footage and are trying to arrest the accused."
