New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. offered a brutal self-assessment following the team’s 2-1 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. He admitted that he “sucked all season” after blasting a tiebreaking home run off Evan Phillips in the eighth inning.

When asked why he believes he sucked, Jazz Chisholm Jr. replied,

He added that he locked in on that one at-bat, recording his 14th home run of the season, to help the team win against the reigning World Series champions. Cody Bellinger described Chisholm’s home run as “a huge, huge swing” with a “lot of power.”

Yankees pitcher Brent Headrick highlighted the moment as “the spark we needed.” Despite the clutch performance, Chisholm’s self-evaluation drew widespread reactions from fans on social media.

Chisholm, a potential free agent after 2026, said earlier in the season that he would try to catch up to Shohei Ohtani’s 50-50 record. However, due to inconsistent performance, it’ll be tough for the 28-year-old to reach 30-30.

In Spring, Chisholm said that he has a gut feeling that this will be “an amazing year.” He felt this year was going to be “magical” following Aaron Judge as an example in the clubhouse. However, the captain has been out with a stress fracture, and no official return timeline has been revealed.

Following Sunday evening’s game at Yankee Stadium, Jazz Chisholm Jr. admitted that he’s been trying to make mechanical tweaks all year, but it has instead backfired. Now, he believes the only thing to do is to try his best and stick to what works on the field.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone also admitted that the team has got to be “more consistent offensively”, identifying it as the biggest thing that has “ailed us through these few weeks.” He believes going offensive is the only way the team can now compete in the second half with the championship in line.
