Avatar Legends is here, and with it comes a fantastic cast of characters with lengthy, powerful combos and so it’s time to talk tier lists! However, not everyone is equal in this fighting game. Ultimately, you should play whoever you enjoy, whoever you like, or who looks cool to you. That’s where real power lies in fighting games. If you put enough effort in with a character, you can succeed with anyone. That said, we do know who we think is the best.
This Avatar Legends tier list could very well change over the next week or so, as we spend even more time with the roster, so please keep that in mind. This is based on my feelings from playing and reviewing the title before launch.

There is nobody in Avatar Legends right now that’s better than Fire Lord Azula. She can do it all, has tons of damage, great combos. She can zone, she can set traps, between the fire carpet and her fire kisses, she’s fast, and has great movement with her Flow.
She can pin you in the corner and simply destroy you with damage. She’s simply the best and there’s nobody that really comes close, thus, she gets her own tier.
The S-Tier characters in Avatar Legends all have fantastic kits for one reason or another, deal really good damage without too much effort (though there are absolutely bonkers combos you can put together), and have just about no holes in their game.
Korra is a rushdown monster with tons of combos, lots of follow-ups, and can carry you across the screen, to the corner, and just bully you. I love Toph’s ability to create armor (and also dash in), she can set traps with rocks, and can be played very aggressively.
Katara has awesome combos in Avatar Legends, and has some truly tricky mixups, thanks to Water Whip Stance+Flow. You can dash jump over someone, and smash them with the Water Whip to create a mixup overhead.
The A-Tier characters all feel solid, but take a bit more work to get into than the higher tier characters in Avatar Legends. Aang and Avatar Aang felt kind of similar to me. Personally, I don’t enjoy Aang’s tricky, movement-based setups, but I can see why some players might enjoy him.
He’s got a bit of the El Fuerte about him, and that’s not my favorite style of gameplay. Nightmare Korra, I’m torn on. I feel maybe she could join her counterpart, but her movement I think puts her down here.
She reminds me a lot of Iori from King of Fighters, for some reason. While my time with Zaheer was brief, I really like the setups that are possible with summoning his allies. He might shift around a bit after more time has passed.
I feel sort of the same about Fire Lord Ozai. He’s got reach, and he’s fun, and he's certainly fast. He can get a lot of damage out of throws, and I know there are players that will be excited for his gameplay. A grappler, that's decent? It's true!
The B-Tier Avatar Legends characters have some great qualities, but simply lack in other places. Kyoshi, for example, who I love playing dearly, has tons of range in her specials. However, her movement and jump are very slow, unless you’re using Flow, and you don’t want to waste that. Her grab super is also very precise, and can be hard to land, but grappler fans are used to that.
The C-Tier characters really need some work to be viable, but they can still be fun. I think Zuko kind of lacks damage, though his kit is incredibly fun to play. There’s not a lot of ranged play in this game, despite several characters having fireball-type moves. He’s got fun divekicks and cool moves, but I think he’s just not very strong.
I heard a lot of people say Sokka is going to be S-Tier, but right now, I’m just not seeing it. Not online, and not in my own personal gameplay. I don’t really like his run, but I do think the three different angles for his boomerang are nice.
You just have to wait for it to come back or pick it up off the ground He’s decent, and I really think there’s something there. Right now, though, he seems like a bit of a bottom tier character.
