Marvel Studios is kicking off the countdown to one of its biggest releases in an unusual way. Months before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in cinemas, Disney is reportedly preparing to open advance ticket bookings for select premium screenings. The move has surprised fans because blockbuster tickets rarely go on sale this far ahead of release. Along with the early booking plan, reports have also revealed the film's expected runtime, giving Marvel fans fresh clues about what to expect from the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Major update on Avengers: Doomsday before release

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is expected to begin advance ticket sales for Avengers: Doomsday on July 20, nearly five months before the film's theatrical release on December 18.

However, the early sale will not cover every cinema. The report states that bookings will initially be available only for Infinity Vision theatres, Disney's premium large-format screening experience created for select Avengers: Doomsday shows.

The decision reportedly comes as competition for premium cinema screens continues to grow. Warner Bros. has already secured IMAX screens for Dune: Part Three during the same holiday release period. By launching Infinity Vision and opening ticket sales well in advance, Disney appears to be ensuring that Marvel fans reserve premium seats before competing releases arrive.

The early ticket strategy also follows a growing Hollywood trend. Recently, Universal generated significant buzz by putting select IMAX tickets for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey on sale nearly a year before its release. Disney now seems to be adopting a similar approach to build excitement around its biggest MCU event.

Runtime revealed as Marvel prepares Comic-Con campaign

The reported ticket sale has also revealed another major detail about the film. Avengers: Doomsday is currently expected to have a runtime of 165 minutes, or 2 hours and 45 minutes.

If that remains unchanged, the movie will become one of Marvel's longest theatrical releases. It will run longer than Avengers: Infinity War, which had a runtime of 149 minutes, but remain shorter than Avengers: Endgame, which lasted 181 minutes.

Although the film's final version has not yet been locked, advance ticket sales generally require cinema chains to finalise their screening schedules. That means only small adjustments to the runtime are expected before release.

Disney is also reportedly planning another surprise for Marvel fans. A special theatrical re-release titled Avengers: Endgame Encore is expected to arrive on September 25, giving audiences another opportunity to experience one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history before Doomsday hits theatres.

The timing of these announcements is equally significant. The reported ticket launch comes just days before San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel Studios is scheduled to return to the famous Hall H stage on July 25. Industry observers expect the studio to unveil the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday during the presentation. An online release is also considered likely soon after, allowing fans worldwide to get their first detailed look at the film.

Robert Downey Jr. returns in Marvel's biggest event film

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday brings together one of the largest ensembles ever assembled in the MCU.

One of the biggest talking points is the return of Robert Downey Jr., who is rejoining Marvel in a completely different role. Instead of Iron Man, the actor will portray the franchise's new central villain, Doctor Doom.

The film also reunites several familiar Marvel stars, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic and Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman.

Veteran actors Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Rebecca Romijn are also part of the massive cast, bringing characters from previous Marvel films into the multiverse storyline.

With premium ticket sales beginning months in advance, a lengthy runtime already making headlines, Avengers: Endgame returning to cinemas and Comic-Con expected to unveil the first full trailer, Marvel Studios is launching one of its biggest promotional campaigns since Avengers: Endgame. For fans, the road to Avengers: Doomsday has officially begun well before the film reaches theatres in December. Stay tuned!
