Bantwal Ralway Station is to be inaugurated on July 17 following comprehensive redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the station, along with 74 others across the country, through video conferencing, according to South Western Railway (SWR). Work on the redevelopment project started in September 2023 after Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone a month earlier through video conferencing.
Though the work, estimated to cost ₹26.18 crore, was brought under the PM GATI Shakti Scheme for speedy execution, it picked up pace only in February 2025 after The Hinduwrote about the delay in January 2025.

The project focussed on modernising passenger facilities, circulation management, and improvement in aesthetics in line with Indian Railways’ standards. A major component of the redevelopment included improvement to waiting halls and booking counters, providing enhanced space, better seating arrangements, and improved passenger convenience.
The station layout was optimised through development of the circulating area, where separate zones for drop-off and pick-up have been created to streamline vehicular movement, reduce congestion and improve safety.
Infrastructure was strengthened with the provision of full-length platform shelters for a length of 400 metres on PF 1 and PF 2. Additionally, platform surfaces on both the sides have been improved to enhance safety, durability, and ease of movement for passengers.
The project included improvements to station interiors, provision of modern furniture, illumination, and landscaping, contributing to a more comfortable and visually appealing environment. Architectural enhancement has been achieved through the provision of entry and exit arches, giving the station a distinctive and welcoming appearance.
Significant electrical upgrades have been implemented, including improved lighting arrangements, installation of LED platform name boards, LED signage, and façade lighting, thereby ensuring better visibility and energy efficiency. Passenger information systems, such as Coach Indication Boards, Train Indication Boards, Public Address System, and station clocks have been provided to improve communication and passenger guidance.
