Jude Bellingham became the highest English goalscorer in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup, after he scored the last goal for the Three Lions in the third-place match against France in Miami on Saturday.
Bellingham surpassed the record of Gary Lineker, who had six goals in the 1986 World Cup, with a brilliant individual goal, carrying the ball into the box and then tucking it past Mike Maignan in the net.
The 23-year-old Real Madrid midfielder, playing in his second World Cup, has been instrumental for England throughout this tournament as it had its best-ever finish in the tournament in six decades, with the win over France.
But it had to work hard for the win.
Though England hammered four goals in the first half, France struck back heavily, scoring thrice in 22 minutes after the break. Bukayo Saka then converted from the spot, while Dembele cancelled that with a fourth goal for Les Bleus.
It was then than Bellingham came off the bench, going for a brilliant run against the run of play and then scoring England’s sixth goal of the match. It was his seventh goal in this World Cup, and the eighth overall. He has two assists, taking his total goal contributions to double digits.
