A draw of lots helped the Congress-supported candidate win the vice-president’s post in the Parwanoo Municipal Council (MC) while the BJP-backed candidate was elected president. The BJP-supported candidates had won five seats in the nine-member House while the Congress-supported candidates had secured four seats. The Congress got the benefit of an extra vote polled by Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri, bringing both parties on a par with five votes each. The fate of the two top posts was decided by a draw of lots where the luck smiled on BJP-supported Thakur Dass Sharma, who was elected president, while Congress-supported Mohan Lal Azad was elected vice-president. It is after a decade that the BJP-supported candidate has been elected the president of the Parwanoo Municipal Council after the party faced a drubbing in the last two elections
The BJP’s efforts to rope in Congress-supported Thakur Dass Sharma helped it secure a majority in the House. Sharma was pitted against Congress-supported Nisha Sharma, who had earlier switched sides from the BJP in the last elections in 2021. Sharma had earlier been a Congress-supported president of the MC.
For the vice-president’s post, the BJP had fielded Ram Dhyan Singh while the Congress threw its weight behind Mohan Lal Azad.
With the BJP-supported candidates had captured the Nalagarh MC earlier, the Congress successfully got its supported candidate elected as the vice-president of the Parwanoo civic body.
