The BJP government is all set to roll out the red carpet for PM Narendra Modi when he lands in Jind to flag off the country’s first hydrogen-powered train tomorrow, even as the party has planned massive outreach programmes across the state to celebrate the “milestone”.

The stage is set for the virtual inauguration of big-ticket projects worth Rs 14,700 crore, including an expressway, two national highways, medical colleges and the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a Sikh museum. The party top brass, including state incharge Satish Poonia and CM Nayab Singh Saini have been involved in curating the programme.

“Modi will unveil several projects which will make life easier for the common man. While the train symbolises the country’s commitment to green energy and the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the other projects reflect the commitment to ‘Developed Haryana-Developed India’,” said Poonia.

A senior BJP leader said Jind was selected for the “historic event”, given its large number of farmers and cattle-rearers, making it a true representation of rural life. “The launch of the hydrogen train will symbolise the meeting of advanced technology with the state’s strong farming and livestock traditions,” he said.

“The event will further strengthen the vision of Viksit Bharat, as only a few countries operate hydrogen-powered trains,” said Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia.

Sources said six memento designs had been prepared, of which one would be chosen as a gift to the PM.

The programme has been planned in a manner that allows maximum public participation. “While leaders of Jind, Hansi and Gohana have been invited to attend the main event in Jind, the programme will also be telecast live at the district headquarters. Large LED screens have been installed at the venue. Ministers, MLAs and other senior leaders have been assigned to attend district-level programmes so that people can participate in their own districts instead of coming to Jind,” he said.
