A booth level officer (BLO) engaged in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls was allegedly assaulted while performing his official duty in Bathinda city on Wednesday. The police have registered a case and arrested the accused.

    Harmesh Kumar, in his complaint to the police, alleged that he was on the SIR duty in Sirki Bazar on Wednesday to verify the documents of voters and collect the required information.

    “During the exercise, I visited a house for document verification. The house owner Akashdeep Singh, a resident of Rambagh Road, refused to produce the documents. Later, the accused pushed and assaulted me. He also attempted to snatch the official records, obstructed in discharging my government duty,” alleged the complainant.

    The incident has sparked resentment among the BLO community.

    A case under Sections 132 and 221 of the BNS has been registered at Kotwali police station.
