The bodies of two unidentified men, said to be around 30 years old, were found in an abandoned well at Athikudi village near Lalgudi in Tiruchi district on Monday.

According to the police sources, passers-by noticed a foul smell emanating from the abandoned well and alerted the authorities. On inspection, the police found the bodies of the two men in a decomposed state. Footwear, clothes and mobile phones were found near the well.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel retrieved the bodies, which were later sent to the Government Hospital in Lalgudi for autopsy.

Police said the identities of the deceased are yet to be established, and they are verifying missing persons reports from nearby areas. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
