A threatening email from a pro-Khalistan group caused a stir among the administration and police in Gurugram on Monday morning. Following threats to blow up several prominent private schools and the Mini-Secretariat, the police immediately issued a high alert and tightened security.
Security was stepped up at the schools concerned as a precautionary measure, and the bomb disposal squad, dog squad and special police teams arrived to launch an intensive search operation. After several hours of searching all schools, nothing suspicious was found and the threat turned out to be fake. An FIR was registered and the police are trying to identify the person who sent the email.
According to the police, emails were sent around 9.15 am to Blue Bells Model School, Salwan Public School, Amity International School, Air Force School and the Mini-Secretariat, threatening to detonate explosives at the schools at 1.11 pm and at the Mini Secretariat at 3.11 pm.
After receiving the threat, the Gurugram police, district administration and intelligence agencies swung into action. A security cordon was thrown around all schools and the Mini-Secretariat complex and thorough searches were conducted in classrooms, offices, parking areas and other sections.
The police have handed over the investigation to the Cyber Crime Branch. The source of the email, the IP address and technical details are being examined to identify the senders.
