The turmoil in the Punjab Congress is likely to continue till Rahul Gandhi returns to the country from his foreign tour and breaks the deadlock, said sources.

"Both Warring and Channi camps are waiting for him to come and sort out the differences. Otherwise what is stopping them from coming to the table?" questioned a Congress leader, not wishing to be named.

Attending a dinner hosted by former Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu at Sector 78 in Mohali , Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring too hinted of the deadlock being broken in the coming days, "Within the next three to four days, the people of Punjab will witness a new political atmosphere in the state. If any party leader or worker is upset with me, I will resolve all differences, and the party will remain united to contest the upcoming Assembly elections," he said on Wednesday evening.

A day earlier, talking to mediapersons in Chandigarh, AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel had mentioned "five days’ time" to resolve all differences between Punjab Congress leaders.

Channi, meanwhile, has been reiterating his allegiance to Rahul Gandhi and said his loyality remains with the Congress.

Congress sources said the lingering tension between the top leadership in Punjab Congress also leaves AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, in an "uncomfortable position".

A senior Congress leader, on the condition of anonymity, said, "Both the camps are waiting for Rahul Gandhi to come and give a decision. Baghel has come here as a troubleshooter for the time-being."

Punjab Congress workers are a little dismayed with the turn of events but also see a silver lining that the tussle between the top leadersĥip may be thrashed out well before the campaigning begins for Assembly elections.

Former Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly and Former Punjab Cabinet Minister Rana KP Singh, Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh, former MLA Nabha Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Mahinder Singh Rinwa, former MLA Hans Raj Josan, former Zira MLA Kulbir Singh Zira, Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary and Captain Sandeep Sandhu, General Secretary, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), among others, attended the dinner.
