Just a few days ahead of the event, Khan dropped a blockbuster tease that could change the tag team division of AEW.

Just ahead of the Redemption pay-per-view, the AEW President teased the addition of another major tournament in AEW programming. During the Redemption media call, Tony Khan was asked if he has any plans for a Crockett Cup-style tournament for AEW. To which he replied that he has thought about such a competition where multiple tag teams from all across the world would compete.

Crockett Cup is a tag team wrestling tournament. It was created in 1986 by Jim Crockett in NWA as a means to showcase the incredible tag team wrestling. Only time will tell if this sort of tournament will make its way to the Jacksonville-based promotion down the line.

During the Redemption media call, Tony Khan talked about various things around AEW. He also revealed details about the future of some of the top stars in the company. In a conversation, the AEW President dropped a massive bombshell on the future of Tay Melo in All Elite Wrestling.

Tay Melo has been a part of AEW since 2020. She currently competes in the women's tag team division of the company. However, Tony revealed that she has asked for her release from All Elite Wrestling. Khan went on to say that Melo has decided to step away from the world of wrestling to focus on other endeavors.

The 31-year-old star has been a part of the pro-wrestling world for over 9 years. Therefore, fans are excited to see what she will be doing from here on. Nonetheless, Khan has some major things to look forward to ahead of AEW Redemption this weekend.
