A wrestling legend has d*ed at only 63 years of age. He created history in his career.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Doug Stahl has died at age 63. The star, who was also known as Super Destroyer #2 back in the early days of ECW, holds the record for being the first and third ever ECW Tag Team Champions. Unfortunately, the star passed away on Friday.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the legend's passing were not reported and are unknown at this time.
Over the course of his career, Stahl, along with his partner, Petrucci, were the longest reigning ECW Tag Team Champions. To this day, the pair remains the longest-reigning champs, having held the title for 283 days, while the second-longest champs were Chris Candido and Lance Storm at 203 days. The most famous ECW Tag Team Champs, the Public Enemies, only held it for 174 days.
Stahl was also a Golden Gloves Boxer and even won the Junior USA Championship Heavyweight title at only 15 years of age. He won two Golden Gloves tournaments, both at 15 and 17 years old. Unfortunately, he joined the army and during a parachute jump, he tore his ACL, which led to his sports career being put on hold. After this, he ended up trained by the legendary WWE team, the Wild Samoans.
Later in his career, after meeting Petrucci, he became Super Destroyer #1, and together they became Super Destroyer #2, forming one of the most successful tag teams in wrestling history.
Eventually, he went on to work for North East Independence, and after his time in ECW ended, he worked as an indie star until 2006 before ending his career.
