A sum of ₹6.14 lakh was seized by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing personnel from the Orathanadu Taluk Agriculture Extension Centre on July 10.

Inquiries reveal that the DVAC Thanjavur Unit received complaints from farmers that ‘greasing of palms’ was rampant during disbursement of ‘kuruvai special package scheme’ benefits.

Subsequently, the DVAC personnel raided the AEC at Orathanadu on July 10 and on seeing the DVAC personnel, the officials and staff at the office threw away currency notes through the windows. The currency notes were collected by the DVAC personnel and detailed investigation has commenced, sources said.
