VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said a narrative was being set on social media claiming that the TVK-led government was acting based on the recommendations and suggestions made by the VCK and making appointments. This was completely false, he said.
Addressing a gathering at a party meeting in Madurai on Friday, Mr. Thirumavalavan said of the eight Scheduled Caste Ministers in the TVK-led government, the TVK had appointed six Scheduled Castes as Ministers. The other two were from Congress and the VCK respectively.
It is being said the TVK was giving opportunities and importance to a particular community. However, the DMK and the AIADMK were not questioned as to why adequate opportunities were not given based on population demographics, he said, adding that such views were being propagated to incite resentment among the other communities against the government. We have been operating successfully in the electoral arena for 25 years, he said.
He said it was gratifying to see that the VCK had emerged as an indispensable force in Tamil Nadu politics through its relentless and intensive fieldwork. We have consistently organised numerous conferences. Our movement continues to grow stronger thanks to the contributions from the comrades who give without expecting anything in return. The VCK is a party for the poor, the marginalised, and the working class, he said, adding that caste must be eradicated, as it prevents the unification of Tamils.
At a press meet, to a query on the cordial relationship between the PMK and the TVK, Mr. Thirumavalavan said one can maintain cordial relations with everyone. He said the VCK will not form an alliance with the parties that engage in communal politics. A good rapport exists between the TVK and the VCK, he added.
Condemning the custodial death of S. Sabari Varman of Nagercoil, he said the Chief Minister should review the case and order a CBI inquiry.
