The district unit of the Congress today staged a protest at the district headquarters against the BJP over allegations of large-scale irregularities in donations collected for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
District Congress in-charge Chandra Prabha Negi and District Congress president Des Raj Gautam led the protest march from the Rest House to the Bus Stand and back. The protesters raised slogans against the BJP and demanded a fair probe into the matter, followed by strict action against those found guilty. The activists also chanted ‘bhajans’ in praise of deities Ram and Sita during the protest.
Later, while addressing mediapersons, Negi said that the BJP came to power at the Centre by seeking votes in the name of the Ram Temple, but the construction of the revered shrine had been marred by allegations of large-scale misuse of donations made by crores of Hindus. She said the sentiments of devotees had been hurt and that the BJP would have to face the consequences.
Negi added that the protests would continue through public campaigns and ‘bhajans’ until those responsible were punished. Calling the BJP a “Chanda Chor Party”, she alleged that large-scale corruption within the party had started coming to light.
