Premier League club Chelsea is closing in on the signing of Aston Villa and England midfielder Morgan Rogers on a six-year-deal.

The Blues have reached a verbal agreement with the Birmingham-based side for the 23-year-old Rogers with the latter set to receive a fee of £117m, according to reports.

Rogers is set to complete his medical in London on Monday before formally completing the transfer.

Rogers has been instrumental in Aston Villa’s return to the Champions League and the Europa League title win in May.

Arsenal was also keen on securing the services of Rogers, who is capped 21 times for England, but the attacking midfielder has opted to sign for rivals Chelsea.

He is currently on England duty at the FIFA World Cup, where the Three Lions will take on France in a third-place playoff game on Saturday.
