Monitoring committees have been constituted at the regional and zonal levels to oversee action against unauthorised constructions and buildings being used for purposes other than those permitted under approved plans in Greater Chennai. Officials have started issuing notices to owners, seeking explanations and initiating further action, according to Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
On Friday, GCC Commissioner G.S. Sameeran chaired a review meeting on action taken against buildings constructed in violation of planning rules and those being used for purposes different from the approved use, in accordance with directions of the Supreme Court. He directed zonal officers to immediately submit field inspection reports on action taken against unauthorised constructions and change of building use, a press release said.
The GCC appealed to building owners and institutions not to undertake construction in deviation of approved plans.
The GCC also asked owners using buildings for purposes other than those approved to furnish complete details in response to the Corporation’s notices and regularise such use in accordance with the applicable legal provisions wherever permissible, the release stated.
