A 45-year-old daily wage labourer died on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), a month after a dog bit him in Kotturpuram and he failed to take anti-rabies medication.

    A senior official of the City Police said V. Murugan was a resident of Chitra Nagar of Kotturpuram and was working as a construction worker engaged in fixing wall tiles.

    A month ago, Murugan, who was addicted to alcohol, was bitten by a stray dog in the locality. However, Murugan did not take any preventive steps to visit hospital to take anti-rabies medicine. On Tuesday (July 14), when Murugan was working, he lost consciousness and was taken to the Saidapet Government Hospital where the doctors administered an injection for dog bite and he returned home. Murugan again fainted in the early morning on Wednesday and his family took him to the Government Royapettah Hospital where the doctor pronounced him dead. 

    The Kotturpuram police, on being alerted, have kept the body in the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem and are investigating.
