Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the ongoing Statewide anti-drug drive, Operation Toofan, was in tune with Narayana Guru’s dream to build a healthy young generation free from the influence of intoxicants.

He was inaugurating ‘Unarvu’, a campaign launched by the SNDP Higher Secondary School at Udayamperoor on Tuesday.

“Guru warned about the dangers of alcohol way before many thought about it. He made a call to society to free itself from the slavery of intoxicants and awaken their consciousness. Guru reminds that no wise person would surrender their consciousness to intoxicants,” Mr. Chennithala said.

Mr. Chennithala said the drive would complete 50 days on Wednesday and over 7,500 people had been arrested as part of the operation so far. He reiterated that the operation would continue until the drug mafia were uprooted.

Thripunithura MLA Deepak Joy, Vaikom MLA K. Binimon and District Police Chief (Kochi city) Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar were among those who attended.
