Lakshya Sen on Wednesday had to dig deep against Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in their Round of 32 clash at the China Open 2026.

    The India No. 1 needed 53 minutes to prevail 22-20, 15-21, 21-14 over his Japanese opponent and advance to the last 16. He will now take on World No. 8 Victor Lai of Canada on Thursday.

    The opening game was the closest and Tanaka even had a game point at 20-19. However, Lakshya fought back to clinch three on the bounce and eke out a 1-0 lead.

    Tanaka came out firing in the second game and got himself six game points. Lakshya could only save one and conceded the game 15-21. The Indian was not to be denied in the decider as he cantered to a 21-14 victory.

    Earlier in the day, Ayush Shetty stunned World No. 11 Alwi Farhan of Indonesia and won 21-17, 5-21, 21-17.
