Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi lambasted the Modi government on Wednesday over the violence during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar.
Addressing a press conference, Rahul commented, "What wrong have our students done to have security forces aiming weapons at them and beating them up?"
He said students were simply demanding "an education system that works and is fair," while alleging that India's once world-renowned education system had become "a rigged system."
Holding the government responsible, Gandhi demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, calling him "incapable of holding the post". He said the protests reflected the frustration of a generation with "no future", citing 152 paper leaks that he claimed affected 7.5 crore students over the past decade without a single conviction.
Gandhi asserted that those who assaulted students must be held accountable and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise to the students, while reiterating the Congress party's support for their demands.

New Delhi: The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has asked varsities and higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country to counsel students to remain focused on their studies and discourage them from participating in protests over recent examination controversies. Delhi Police is using its network of artificial intelligence-based cameras to identify people allegedly involved in clashes during the CJP protest, with investigators saying those responsible for attacking police personnel would be arrested, sources said on Wednesday. The AI-enabled surveillance system is being used to analyse footage from the extensive network of CCTV cameras installed across the New Delhi district, a police source said. So far, 10 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence, the police said. According to the breakup shared by the police, four FIRs have been registered at Parliament Street Police Station, three at Connaught Place Police Station, and one each at Mandir Marg, Barakhamba and Kartavya Path police stations, including one FIR by a Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel who was allegedly thrashed by the protesters and a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. The offences being investigated include allegations of rioting, assault on public servants, obstruction of government duty, damage to public property, criminal conspiracy, the Arms Act, the Prevention of Damaging Public Property (PDPP) Act and other relevant offences, police said. Police have not yet disclosed the number of arrests made in connection with the incidents. PTI

New Delhi : Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), student wing of RSS on Wednesday condemned the violence and public disruption that occurred at Jantar Mantar during recent demonstrations over NEET-UG and education reforms and demanded that the Union government constitute a high-level committee to review the transparency and integrity of competitive examinations. The student organisation said the legitimate grievances of students must be addressed through “meaningful dialogue, empathy and institutional reforms.” It alleged that “rogue political interests and anti-social elements” had orchestrated violence under the guise of a genuine student movement to disrupt public order. ABVP expressed sympathy for the students and security personnel injured during the clashes and said it hoped such incidents would not recur.

New Delhi: Celebrity support for activist Sonam Wangchuk and students protesting over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak continued to grow on Wednesday, with veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah joining actor Preity Zinta in voicing support for the movement and urging the government to engage with the protesters. A day after Preity Zinta appealed to the Centre to hold “meaningful dialogue” with Wangchuk and student bodies, Shah released a video message condemning the treatment of protesting students and expressing solidarity with their campaign. New Delhi: The 21-year-old woman injured in the reported protest-related incident and admitted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital has shown significant clinical improvement. New Delhi: Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh on Tuesday met activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, sources said. Wangchuk was discharged from the Safdarjung Hospital earlier in the evening and was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for further treatment in compliance with a Delhi High Court order, officials said. "Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh have met Sonam Wangchuk at the hospital," a source told PTI. Wangchuk was brought to the Medanta Hospital in an ambulance at around 7.30 pm under tight security. He has been admitted to ICU 8 under the supervision of Dr Sushila Kataria, an internal medicine specialist, a Medanta Hospital official said. PTI
