The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday withdrew its agitation over the NEET issue after the government accepted all demands of the outfit, including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and withdrawal of FIRs against protesters.
Union Minister JP Nadda said the government will give “honourable compensation” within rules to the families of the students who committed suicide after the NEET test cancellation and ensure withdrawal of all FIRs registered against the protesters.
The two sides will again meet after four weeks to work on broader reforms in the examination system, the CJP said.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post on Saturday over the NEET paper leak row, saying it is not a matter of “individual prestige” for him.
Pradhan said he is disturbed to see the series of events that have unfolded in the last 10 days and sent his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I took responsibility of NEET paper leak from day one,” he said.
He also said that anti national forces should not be allowed to take advantage of situation at Jantar Mantar and across country.
Pradhan’s resignations comes amid Cockroach Janta Party-led protests at the Jantar Mantar, demanding his accountability over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and irregularities in the CBSE’s on-screen marking process, besides seeking wider reforms in the conduct of public examinations. With PTI

Delhi Police alleged that a coordinated misinformation campaign involving AI-generated content, deepfakes and fake social media posts was being used to spread false information about the ongoing CJP protest. The force said it had identified and blocked more than 400 Pakistan-linked social media handles allegedly involved in the campaign. Addressing a press briefing, police said several attempts had been made to circulate misleading and false information related to the agitation on social media. They appealed to the public to verify the authenticity of any post, video or photograph before believing or sharing it. Officials said the protest had been continuing for the past several weeks, during which a large number of posts and videos had been circulated on social media platforms, particularly Instagram. According to the police, several of these posts were found to be false, manipulated or intended to mislead the public, posing a potential threat to law and order. The police also referred to a social media post by a political leader claiming that the Central government was preparing to launch a major crackdown on protesters at Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has issued a nationwide call for a candle march on Sunday, July 26, urging people to gather in every district to express solidarity with victims of alleged police brutality across India. According to a poster issued by the organisation, the candle march will be held at 6 pm, with participants asked to assemble at their respective District Collector Offices. The campaign has been announced under the slogan “Every District. One Day. One Demand.” The organisation has called on student unions and other groups to collaborate and coordinate for permissions and logistical arrangements. The poster states that participants should “Stand in solidarity with victims of police brutality in across India.” It further instructs organisers to read out the students' demands before the gathering and show solidarity with those who have faced police action. As part of the march, participants have been asked to carry one candle each. The poster says: “One candle per person. For every student the system failed. “We too will give a list of police personnel who cracked open the heads of children, dragged them on the streets, broke the ribs of our volunteers and slapped young girls,” Ranka said.

A social media post by Gitanjali Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, on Saturday raised questions over the presence of police personnel at the hospital where Wangchuk was admitted, with the hospital stating that a video circulating online was recorded before it received the Delhi High Court’s written order. In a post on X, Angmo alleged that police personnel were stationed throughout the hospital, including at the main gate, reception, lifts and outside Wangchuk’s ICU, and claimed they were deciding who could meet him. “If the Court has clarified that he is not under detention, then under what authority is this happening?” she wrote. Angmo further questioned whether the role of the police in a democracy was “to protect citizens and uphold the law, or to control citizens on behalf of those in power,” adding that these were questions every Indian should be asking. Responding to the controversy, the hospital said the video was purportedly recorded by Wangchuk’s aides on July 21, 2026, inside the hospital premises in a no-videography zone and was released only later. According to the hospital, the video was recorded before the hospital administration received the written order of the Delhi High Court. It said that at the time, Wangchuk had insisted on leaving the hospital based on information available in the media. The hospital further stated that Wangchuk was handed over to the team of doctors from Medanta, Gurugram, at 6:40 pm on the same day immediately after the written court order was received. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was admitted to the ICU at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on July 21, following a Delhi High Court order that transferred him from Safdarjung Hospital.

Liquor shops in Delhi have been ordered to close by 8 pm until the weekend is over, in view of the student protests, sources said on Friday. Liquor shops in the city shut at 10 pm otherwise. “The shops will now close by 8 pm till the weekend.
