New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of action against paper leaks failed to address accountability. It again demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Modi announced the creation of fast-track courts to ensure quick and strict punishment for people involved in paper leaks.
“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
Reacting to Modi’s announcement, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared a picture of Pradhan with the caption, “Hi, my name is nothing”. The party also posted, “Dharmendra Pradhan Must Resign.”
CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka welcomed the Prime Minister’s response but said it came nearly one-and-a-half months after the protests began.
“The first thing is that it is good that after one-and-a-half months of protests, the prime minister has finally taken notice. Perhaps his foreign visits are over and he has returned to India, which is a good thing,” Ranka said.
Ranka said punishing people after an examination paper had leaked would not solve the problem.
“But what punishment are you imposing after the paper leak has already taken place? That is not going to solve the problem of paper leaks. The real question is why paper leaks are happening in the first place. That question must be answered,” he said.
He accused those responsible for managing the examination system of lacking accountability and competence. He said the government must focus on preventing leaks instead of acting only after they occur.
Ranka said the demonstrators would remain at the protest site until Pradhan resigned. He also claimed that anger among protesters had started shifting towards Modi because he had not responded to their concerns.
The CJP-led protest began on June 20. Protesters seek accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, wider education reforms and Pradhan’s resignation.
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the agitation on June 28 and began an indefinite hunger strike. He has offered to end his fast if the Centre assures protesters that they will not face FIRs or other punitive action for peacefully joining the movement.
