A Class X student drowned in an open well near Sulur in Coimbatore district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as S. Vishakan (15), son of Senthil Prabhu and Sudha, a woman Sub-Inspector attached to the Singanallur police station (Investigation Wing) in Coimbatore.
The police said Vishakan, who had been studying in a private school at Palladam in Tiruppur district, left his residence around 2.15 p.m. on Sunday, stating that he was going to the house of his friend Kamalesh at Kalangal near Sulur. One of his friends later informed the family that Vishakan, along with his friends Kamalesh and Vishwa, went to bathe in a well at Appanaickenpatti. While bathing, Vishakan allegedly drowned and did not resurface, the family was told.
The boy’s father rushed to the spot and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services. Fire brigades recovered the body from the well and it was shifted to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital, Coimbatore, for post-mortem examination.
The Sulur police registered a case under Section 194 the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s mother. Further investigation is on.
