Tottenham star Xavi Simons has opened up about his exit from Barcelona. He claims that the Catalan side never believed in him, and he chose to keep quiet about it.

    Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, Simons said that he focused on improving on the pitch, though it was made clear to him that he was not going to make it at Barcelona. He stated that the club officials told him they were only offering a deal for the sake of it, while they were keen on helping other players do better.

    Talking about his decision to leave Barcelona and join PSG in 2019, Simons said that he was sold on the Ligue 1 side's project, which made his choice easy. He said:

    Xavi Simons has been linked with a return to Barcelona in recent seasons, but he opted to stay away. He joined Tottenham last summer, after weeks of waiting for Chelsea to make a move for him.

    Xavi Simons spoke about Barcelona in 2023, admitting that La Masia played a key role in his career. The Dutchman stated that he learnt a lot at the club and said:

    However, he hinted that the exit was forced on him, saying he would discuss it later in his career and that it was not the ideal time.
