Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday participated in a tree plantation drive in Model Town under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and urged citizens to join the mission of planting 70 lakh saplings during the monsoon.
The CM said the campaign is not merely a tree-planting initiative, but a people’s movement that reflects respect for nature, environment and motherhood. She said the campaign connects citizens with environmental conservation while taking Delhi towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
Ms. Gupta said the Delhi government is committed to convert every vacant and suitable space in the Capital into green areas. As part of this effort, plantation drive is being carried out along central verges, beneath metro corridors and on both sides of roads in the Model Town area. Thousands of people are participating in the campaign and playing an active role in environmental conservation, she added.
On July 7, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the plantation drive, following which the Delhi government also launched a dedicated portal, www.greendrive.delhivanmahotsav.in, to encourage public participation.
Through the portal, citizens can join the plantation campaign by selecting a date, time and location of their convenience and book a slot. The Delhi government will deliver free saplings to citizens’ homes. They can also use the portal to identify their nearest government nursery and collect a free sapling, the CM said.
