CM Punk made his much-awaited return to WWE on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW. The Best in the World made a surprise appearance in Chicago and won the world title.

Sami Zayn was scheduled to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes on last night's RAW. The American Nightmare had earned the title shot by defeating Jey Uso on the latest edition of SmackDown. Unfortunately for Rhodes, he was brutally attacked by Gunther before the championship contest.

Many fans hoped that Rhodes would recover in time for the main event. However, the former Undisputed WWE Champion was taken to a hospital. The Master Strategist was pleased about the development because he didn't wish to defend his gold, but his celebration didn't last long. CM Punk returned as The American Nightmare's replacement to loud cheers from the Chicago audience.

The Best in the World and Zayn competed in a 20-plus-minute back-and-forth championship match in the main event of RAW. Punk proved himself the better man last night, dethroning Zayn to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

Following his win, Punk celebrated with his hometown fans. On his way to the backstage area, The Second City Saint sent a secret message to his real-life wife, AJ Lee.

Before tonight, Punk's last appearance on WWE TV came on the RAW after WrestleMania 42. He teased going after the Undisputed WWE Championship on the show. Fast forward to July, and The Best in the World is the new titleholder. Meanwhile, Lee last appeared on the company's programming at WrestleMania 42, where she lost the Women's Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch.

CM Punk transitioned to MMA after shocking the world by leaving WWE in 2013. He made his UFC debut in a losing effort against Mickey Gall in September 2016. Two years later, The Best in the World returned for his second fight against Mike Johnson. Punk lost to Johnson, but the bout was eventually ruled a no-contest.

The Best in the World appears to have retired from mixed martial arts. However, in a recent interview on State of Mind with Maurice Benard, AJ Lee said CM Punk wanted to fight in UFC again.

Punk is among the top superstars in WWE today. Hence, he is unlikely to set foot inside the Octagon again.
