Ahead of the 2026-27 Tamil Nadu Budget, which is most likely to be presented in the Assembly by the end of this month, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will chair a meeting of his Cabinet at the Secretariat in Chennai on Thursday (July 16, 2026).

According to sources, the meeting will commence at 10.30 a.m., during which the Chief Minister will discuss with Ministers the proposals and announcements to be included in the Finance and Agriculture Budgets. The Cabinet is also likely to approve new industrial projects in the State.

Since this will be the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led coalition government’s first Budget, expectations are high that it will contain new announcements on infrastructure projects and welfare measures. Some of the key promises made in the TVK’s election manifesto are also likely to find a place in the Budget.

This will be the second meeting of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet headed by Mr. Vijay. The first meeting was held on June 5, during which the Cabinet approved 436 vision statements under the ‘Vetri Tamizhagam Vision Document’, encompassing many of the poll promises made by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly elections.

Sources said preparations for the Budget were currently under way. Mr. Vijay has been holding department-wise review meetings with Ministers and officials concerned since July 2 to chalk out action plans for the implementation of existing schemes and projects and the introduction of new welfare measures.
