New Delhi: Television actress Narayani Shashtri has opened up about the drug abuse in the entertainment industry. In conversation with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, she said that drugs such as cocaine and MDMA are common in certain TV circles.

She also admitted that she herself has tried drugs at one point just as an experiment and to understand what happens.

The actress said that the industry parties used to have a defined budget for alcohol, which has now shifted to acquiring illegal drugs.

She said, “Earlier, there would be a budget for alcohol at parties. Now there’s a budget for drugs. I was shocked when I saw this. That’s why I stopped partying many years ago, because now the parties are not about dancing; they are something else completely.”

She explained that at big parties people keep it on the down side, but at smaller ones “everyone knows that everyone does stuff.”

When Kannan asked which are the drugs that people do at parties, she said, “Cocaine and MDMA are common.”

When asked if actors do drugs on set, she said, “All the time”. She also recalled that her shoots have been cancelled because the actor is not in a condition to shoot. “Our shoots have been cancelled because the actor is not in a condition to shoot. We would wait for 4 hours wondering what was even happening? The actor would not be in a condition to even stand up. It used to happen a lot.”

She also said that she was “shocked” by the people at the party and what they did when she attended several such parties. Admitting that she herself experimented with drugs, she said, “I have done everything in my life but I have done it as an experiment, to see what happens when you do something.”

She also added that she was not addicted because she only tried drugs once, just so she would know in case someone spiked her drink.
