The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) has mooted measures to support farmers in marketing their produce.

“Agri Intex was started to support farmers in mechanisation and increasing the yield. The Codissia is also considering measures that will help farmers market their produce (at the fair) on a trial basis, though this is at a very preliminary stage,” said the association president V. Rangaswamy at the inaugural of Uzhave Thalai 8.0 on Friday.

V.T. Valluvan, organic farmer, said farmers should move towards tree-based agriculture and look at inter-crops. Agriculture is a high risk business as input costs are rising and there is no price for the produce. Following the “five i” method, farmers can increase their revenue and improve the soil health of the farms, he said.

Manisundar, advisor to the agri committee of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, said the Chamber started organising the Uzhave Thalai conference for farmers in 2017 and also conducts field visits for them. This year, the event had sessions on agro tourism, vertical farming, and automation in agriculture, he said.
