Cody Rhodes and CM Punk were involved in an altercation at the recent WWE live event. The two men nearly exchanged blows before a major name had to rush down to the ring in a towel to calm them down.
The two former AEW stars are set to collide at SummerSlam for the Undisputed WWE Championship. While they have maintained respect for each other in the past, things took a drastic turn on SmackDown, where both Punk and Cody took personal shots at each other.
Despite their differences, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk teamed up at the Live Event in Stockton on July 25. The duo faced Gunther and Sami Zayn in a rematch from Saturday Night's Main Event. While the former AEW stars were able to get the win, the animosity between them was visible throughout the match. The two nearly exchanged blows after the match, but Danhausen rushed to the ring in a towel to intervene and get them on the same page. All three men stood tall to end the night.
Like 2025, this year's SummerSlam will also be a two-night extravaganza. While Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will close out Night Two of the show, the first night will be headlined by the Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and CM Punk.
Cody Rhodes lost the title to Sami Zayn at Night of Champions. He was slated to face the former Bloodline member in a rematch on RAW, but was taken out by Gunther in a backstage attack and was unable to compete. The American Nightmare was replaced by CM Punk, who defeated Zayn to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
Rhodes and Punk teamed up at Saturday Night's Main Event, where they defeated Gunther and Sami Zayn in a tag team match. However, things turned sour between the two after the match, and the two added further fuel to the fire on SmackDown this past Friday.
